چکیده

A single-chip photocurrent-driven wavelength converter operating at 10 Gbit=s is presented. The device consists of a monolithically integrated widely tunable transmitter and an optical receiver. The transmitter consists of a sampled grating DBR laser, electroabsorption modulator and semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). The optical receiver includes a quantum-well pin photodetector and a set of two SOA preamplifiers. Bit error rate measurements at 10 Gbit=s with a 2 1 PRBS showed less than 1 dB of power penalty for conversion between 1550 nm and output wavelengths ranging from 1531 to 1563 nm.

A novel monolithically integrated widely-tunable wavelength converter based on a SGDBR-SOA-MZ transmitter and integrated photodetector

The first monolithically integrated MZ-OEIC tunable wavelength converter is presented. Error free operation at 2.5 Gbit/s with a 2-1 PRBS is demonstrated. A power penalty of 1-2dB is measured across the 37nm wavelength range of the SGDBR.

Wavelength-Routed Switching for 25-Gbit/s Optical Packets Using a Compact Transmitter Integrating a Parallel-Ring-Resonator Tunable Laser and an InGaAlAs EAM

We describe wavelength-routed switching technology for 25-Gbit/s optical packets using a tunable transmitter that monolithically integrates a parallel-ring-resonator tunable laser and an InGaAlAs electroabsorption modulator (EAM). The transmitter provided accurate wavelength tunability with 100-GHz spacing and small output power variation. A 25-Gbit/s burst-mode optical-packet data was encoded ...

Demonstration of Monolithically-Integrated InP Widely-Tunable Laser and SOA-MZI Wavelength Converter

The first monolithically integrated widely tunable wavelength converter, consisting of a Sampled-Grating Distributed-Bragg-Reflector laser and a semiconductor optical amplifier-based Mach-Zehnder interferometer, is reported. Static extinction ratios better than 19dB and 13 dB using electrical and optical control, respectively, were measured over a 22nm laser wavelength range.

Monolithically Integrated Wavelength-Routing Switch Using Tunable Wavelength Converters with Double-Ring-Resonator Tunable Lasers

We present an 8 × 8 wavelength-routing switch (WRS) that monolithically integrates tunable wavelength converters (TWCs) and an 8 × 8 arrayed-waveguide grating. The TWC consists of a double-ringresonator tunable laser (DRR TL) allowing rapid and stable switching and a semiconductor-optical-amplifier-based optical gate. Two different types of dry-etched mirrors form the laser cavity of the DRR TL...
